Puppy Love

I have thought about getting a puppy for a while now.  I finally did it!  I bought an Olde English Bulldogge.  He is only 8 weeks old and his name is Gus.  Of course, he is the cutest thing you have ever seen!  You might be thinking that I am nuts.  Here I am a teacher, mom of 2, and waitress with anxiety.  I usually feel like I am barely surviving this pandemic, yet I get a dog!  You are probably right!  But I can also be a hard ass at times, so I could use a little puppy love in my life!  I mean you guys, that face of his – ugh!  It is a struggle leaving him each day to go to work.  Why is it that we don’t get leave for a new puppy?  After all, he is a new member of the family!

I have had him for 3 nights so far.  Actually, I thought it would be much worse, but so far it is going okay.  The first night he cried in his crate for about an hour before going to bed, but once he did, he slept all night.  I had to put in earbuds because that cry was heartbreaking.  The second night he cried off and on throughout the night for about 30 minutes each time.  Then last night he didn’t cry at all!  He only made a sound when he heard my husband get up early the next morning.  Progress is happening, so that is exciting!  He is just like a baby.  He eats, drinks, plays, goes to the bathroom, and sleeps.  Oh, and the sweet thing LOVES to cuddle up to you once he gets tired and is wore out!  Seriously it reminded me of what it was like to have a newborn!

The kids are adjusting well.  I am hoping through Gus, this will teach them a bit more responsibility!  However, our cat Tank is taking a bit longer to warm up to him!  Slow, gradual progress is being made. First, he wouldn’t come in the same room with him, then he would come in the same room but nowhere near him, then he would get close to him but hiss, and just last night, Gus was sleeping, and he sniffed him.  When Gus is up, Tank will get close and Gus tries to chase him.  Gus will cry when Tank runs up the stairs because he just wants to play.  Wait till Tank realizes he can go up those stairs soon!  He will come around!

I will keep you updated on the progress of our new family member!   Puppy love is great though and I wish you could all experience it some day!  This puppy might even make me become a hugger (just kidding, that will never be me) but softer, nonetheless!
