I have to say that my favorite holiday is Christmas! Today we put up all the Christmas stuff. The tree, stockings, garland, and lights! Something about the Christmas decorations makes your home feel homier! We can all use some early joy this year, so why not put it all up before Thanksgiving! I always used to like Christmas, but now having kids of my own it makes Christmas that much more special! To feel their excitement and see the joy on their face when they look under the tree on Christmas morning makes it all so worth it!
I love Christmas the most when everything is done and you can actually enjoy it! Mommas WORK before Christmas can come to fruition! December 1st is when our Elf, Fletcher usually makes his appearance! December 2nd is our son’s birthday. Then it’s the endless Christmas shopping (I really enjoy buying gifts for people though), then the wrapping, the decorating, figuring out what crafts my students will make for their parents. Deciding what I’m getting my students. Oh, and I got to get those Christmas cards made and sent out.
Then it is important for me to keep up with traditions. We always have a Christmas Cookie Day at my house. We bring a cookie made and make one while here. We snack on appetizers during the day and then make a ton of cookies! At the end we all take a variety of everything home! Another thing our family enjoys is the traditional Christmas movies and lounging together. Normally our days are so busy, but this is the one time we can slow down and enjoy each others company. We watch the Christmas Story, Home Alone, and Christmas With the Cranks just to name a few. Since being with my husband we live near both his family and my family. Usually, the day of the actual holiday is split up between my family (My Gram’s house) and his family (My mother-in-laws or his aunt’s house). Luckily, since having kids we do my family’s get together on a different day. That makes it much more enjoyable. Not having the feeling of being rushed, and being able to take it all in.
So, I really do love Christmas. I just need to relax a bit more (or a lot more). Remember how blessed I am to be able to have my family around and provide a Christmas filled with memories for my children.
